Domestic Violence and the Jewish Community
October is Domestic
Violence Awareness month and Crime Prevention Specialist
Susan Bartelstone is presenting a series of programs
throughout the month on different aspects of this
world-wide epidemic. Most commonly directed at women by
men, as many as 4 million women suffer abuse from their
husbands, ex-husbands, boyfriends or intimate partners
in the United States each year. Today’s guest is Tovah
Kasdin, Program Manager for Jewish Women International,
a non-profit organization which is the leading Jewish
voice worldwide on the issue of domestic violence in
both the Jewish and secular communities. Their network
includes religious leaders, advocates, community groups,
professionals, abuse survivors and volunteers who all
share a common goal – finding and offering support to
the often hidden victims of abuse, breaking the cycle of
violence in Jewish relationships and homes, and
promoting safe, healthy relationships. Stay tuned for
ways YOU can help end domestic abuse.
