When Golda
Meir was the Prime Minister of Israel, back in the early
'70s, an outbreak of nighttime assaults against women
occurred. A curfew on all women was suggested but Golda
refused. Since it’s the men who are attacking the women,
she stated, let the MEN stay home at night. That's
right, Baby! Put the responsibility where it belongs and
then address the source of the problem. Today, Susan
Bartelstone interviews Stephen Glaude, the Executive
Director of a remarkable national organization called
Men Can Stop Rape which is doing just that by mobilizing
young boys (ages 10 and up) to prevent violence against
women. Their programs challenge the harmful aspects of
traditional masculinity, teach boys to value alternative
visions of male strength, and show them how to foster
healthy relationships and alliances with women. And,
they're changing the attitude of millions of young boys.
If you've ever wondered what can be done to stop rape,
you don't want to miss this important show. |
